Translators prove
that you’re not me -
Do prisons show us
who is free?
Experiments within The
Cell
Sought out a cause
for human hell.
Zimbardo traced the
evil fruits
To situation’s
attributes;
But who’s Observer,
who’s Observed?
Inside the circle all
is curved.
A lone Christina saw The Cross
The men had made. She
sensed a loss
Of self control. It’s ever thus –
The way a Me grows
from an Us.
For, from the moment
Selves emerge,
They’re swallowed up
within the urge
To join the others in
a purge
Of weakness. And so weak, they merge.
The Stanford basement’s
here and now.
Look! Check around
you. Notice how
You copy. Reproduce The Code.
You are The Seed and
you’ve been sowed.
Self-preservation is
The Rule;
But it was written by
a fool.
There is no Self and
nowt’s preserved,
And no one gets what
is deserved.
There are no prisons
but The One
We fail to see.
My rhyme is done.

Two Generals' Problem
(To J.N.G.)*
Two Generals stood on
a hill
And both were General
A
Like twins who
started life as One
But found a unique
way
You might sense they’re
identical
Though they’re A
World Apart
And neither knows how
he might say
When the attack will start
So while the surgeons
start their fun
It’s lucky that I’ve
gone quite numb
The brain’s a body
that’s begun
To think what’s gone
has almost come
As one fine day Jim sailed away
So black and white must fade to Gray
And sail straight on passed Farallon
Where no one turns an EPIRB on
Reflecting is indifference
And Truth a one-way glass
That magnifies inference
Before its feel can pass
Maternal dust and swirling ink
Reflecting is indifference
And Truth a one-way glass
That magnifies inference
Before its feel can pass
Both scattered matter in the drink
Seek Five Alive and space to think
If you don’t swim you’re bound to sink*James Nicholas "Jim" Gray born January 12, 1944 - lost at sea January 28, 2007 -declared deceased May 16, 2012. Computer scientist and winner of the Turing Award. Writer on many things including the Two Generals Paradox, a thought experiment demonstrating the problem of communicating over an unreliable link.

Wait Loss
Life is a kind of
Waiting Game
Where each must take
his Turn;
Until the time his
Number’s called
Man lives (but may
not learn).
It’s writ in
Universal Code –
The Order of the
Queue.
No need shove or
push-to-pass
By those in front of
you.
Don’t rush. Your own
appointment slot
Will come and soon
enough.
Now leave all baggage
at the door –
For you can’t bring
that stuff.
Appreciate the
Waiting Room –
You’ll find it’s vast
and wide.
Let Senses drink its
contents in –
For They make what’s
inside.
To share the Chamber,
pause awhile;
You’ll not share It again.
Each Life must leave
her Note behind
In keep of other Men.
Like Eliot sounds out
Above
My rhyme says who
goes there;
But finds another
source to Love
In Anglican unprayer.
The Calendar. The Pendulum.
The Beating Heart of
Man.
Each marks the shifts
with unique beats –
Enjoy them while you can.

There's something I need to get off my chest
If you had powers for a day,
To make the Universe
the way
You’d really like the
place to be,
Would you design it
just like He?
With mortal pain and
child death,
Or force the Good to
see the breath
Slow-taken from a
dying friend,
Who really suffered
at The End?
The words you pray show you are kind –
Not that there is
some Greater Mind;
A psycho god whom we
must flatter –
With whispered pleas to
rank our Matter.
Yes, Mr Leibniz, you
were smart –
But here I must
correct your Art;
All’s as it is as it
must be –
But not because
Almighty He
Designed it thus – He’s
made by Us.
I’m sorry if I make a
fuss –
But there’s more Love
within your look
Than you’ll find in a
Holy Book.

Meta
Dear Heart – don’t be
afraid for me -
I’m not a
probability.
It’s only Love that’s
softly spreading.
Like the guests
joined at our wedding -
A wondrous, human
melting Pot
Of Wilde and child –
we’ve got the lot.
The ebony, the ivory;
The special Song that’s
you with me.
It’s just some naughty Nature growing –
Ponder at what she’s
bestowing;
A warning of the Herd
mistake
That followed
footsteps of the Fake.
Stay on our Magic
Carpet ride –
It’s better with you
by my side.
For we must have our
kismet kiss
And know and take Fate as she is.
